First Day of School

My 10-year old son does not want me to escort him to school tomorrow on his First Day of Fifth Grade.  He just wants to be dropped off.  I had to tease him a little, pretend pout:  “You don’t want me to walk you to your classroom?  And kiss you good-bye?”  He’s so over me.

My daughter doesn’t start kindergarten until next Wednesday.  The divide the kindergarten class up and have only a few kids a day arrive for the first few days.  They call it a “Slow Start” and it’s new since my last child was in kindergarten.  I think it’s a good idea and will make the first day of school easier for my little girl.

And the teenagers?  They are still awake and it’s nearly 1:30 a.m.  We await their curriculum which is somewhere between here and there.  Can’t wait to make them get up early and break this horrible cycle of late nights and late mornings.  I’m the only one who should be conscious at this hour!

  1. My fourth grader doesn’t know why I can’t just drop her in the parking lot. Can’t wait to hear how it goes when it comes time to crack that whip on the teens : )

  2. Oh, I can completely see this coming with my son in a couple of years. So far, in 3rd grade he’s content to ride the bus, but I fully expect him to ask to ride his bike BY HIMSELF this year too, which gives me a little mini heart attack to think about. The worst part? My 4 yr old daughter is the more self assertive/independent one. She’ll probably start all of this behavior in kindergarten! Ha!

  3. haha! I just stumbled across your blog, and I also have a (just turned) 10year old 5th grader and he would rather die a slow painful death, then have me take him to school – and a daughter who just started pre-k .. and who just wanted me to drop her off and not walk her in. I had to leave a comment 🙂 Since my name is Melody too 🙂
