Everything looks blurry.

I’m trying to catch up to my life, running like mad, fingertips almost grasping the bumper.  But it won’t slow down and I can’t hop into the back seat, no matter how I try.

In a little more than a week, I’m boarding an airplane, heading for Californian writer’s conference that I nearly talked myself out of attending.  The days leading up to those five nights and six days away are a jumble of demands:  I need to get my boys through as much schooling as possible and send in our quarterly work samples–we are slightly behind–I need to get laundry caught up, cleaning done, food purchased.  I need to plant the dahlia bulbs I bought last week.  I must send the tax information off to the accountant immediately.

And all the while . . . there is dinner to cook, children to tend, toilets to scrub.  And other stuff.

Oh yeah.  And writing.  I have to pull together some compositions, essays, articles.  I need to solidify ideas and gather up the edges of my brain so that nothing spills out while I’m sloshing around my house, picking up tiny plastic toy cats.

At times like these, I wonder what to do with my hair.  Grow it longer or cut it off again?

Focus.  Focus.  Come on, Mel, focus

  1. Writer’s conference?
Please take a moment in the craziness to bask in the thought “Cool women go to writer’s conferences”.
And female writers should have sleek short hair. Less bothersome when you’re typing out The Big Idea.

  2. My vote is for long hair. I loved it when you were newly married, very long and SEXY. Now that you’ve worked so hard on the new body, let your hair enjoy the new you 🙂 (Yes, even pastor’s wives can be hot) ha ha Of course, this is if you enjoy long hair and don’t mind keeping it up.

  3. I’ve regretted it every time I’ve ever cut my hair, so I don’t know if I’m of any help with that one. But, a writer’s conference? How exciting! You’ll do fine, and I’m sure it’ll all come together, somehow. Have fun!

  4. Sleek? I don’t know…I think those of us who have curly hair can’t really do a sleek do, much as we might like to! (Can I go to the conference too? I think I’m a poet!)I have, on occasion, longed for sleek, but it ain’t gonna happen in this lifetime for me. My curls have been the bane of my existence or a blessing to behold, depending on the phase of the moon. Or something. Anyway, I vote for short enough to be a little sassy, and long enough to put it up when you are running to catch that bumper. Personally, I too, have regretted every time I’ve cut mine.

  6. Do not mention hair. I have been posting about my hair trauma all week. You look lovely at the moment…. from the photo with your Gran, anyway. Just be comfortable! And we are all very proud of you and this writer’s conference thingy. You go and have fun, and forget the pre-algebra.
