Bye-bye holidays!

We’re back to our normal routine.  Waking early, shuffling one kid off to school, sending off two to P.E. at the YMCA, dodging the preschoolers and toddler as they careen around the house, doing laps.  Laundry, more laundry, dirty dishes, literature, math, grammar, neighborhood kids who just walk in the front door without even knocking, rain hurtling itself at the ground with such vehemence and force that I have to wonder why the weather is so angry with us.

Meanwhile, a high school kid in Tacoma shot and killed another high school kid in the school hallway.

Unthinkable.  Incomprehensible.  Tragic.

  1. I saw that on the news, Mel…horrible. Having worked in a local middle school for 7 years and being in the midst of…and the confidant of…a lot of kids, this kind of behavior IS understandable tho incomprehensible. Truly, adults don’t have a CLUE what kids go thru on a daily basis at school…it is nothing…NOTHING…like it was when we went to school. Childhood?! These kids don’t even know what the word means…so many aren’t even allowed to have one any more that isn’t structured 24/7. Like when my neighbor asked her little 7 year old granddaughter to come outside and play, and Marissa said, “But, Grandma, I don’t KNOW how to play outside!” Is that scary or what?! How on earth do we prepare the children of today to survive in this world? I could go on and on but I won’t…this is a subject near and dear to my heart. But a lot of us out here were shaking our heads and wondering what’s gone wrong, let me tell you.

  2. Sad.

We (a town near us) had a man shoot and kill his brother-over who would be taking care of their father. Now no one wins. Dad lost a son to death the other will be prosocuted and most likely jailed. Who will look after dad now?

  3. Very sad. I wonder why someone would do that. I also wonder if the frequency of these events are really much greater, or is the reporting of these events just much greater. Sad. I often consider homeschool. If we had the setup for the virtual schooling here, it would be a serious consideration (I am just too disorganized now).

I also heard today about the people seriously injured when the ice fell off a roof and hit them out in your region (Washington State).
