Wherein I repeat myself. Listen to me!

Seriously.  Whoever started the stupid trend of equating colors (red and blue) with political parties (Democrat and Republican) ought to be slapped silly.  Everyone who follows this lazy style of describing people, STOP IT!  I asked once nicely

So knock it off!  Use a little effort and if you must label me, use a term that makes sense, not a nonsensical color.  Please, I suggest this term:  Irritable Queen of Common Sense and Sock-Folding.

I still don’t remember if my pointless vote for the Republican candidates makes me red or blue . . . (don’t say it) . . . or (I mean it, don’t say it) . . . just (stop thinking that!) (do not fill in this blank ________.)

Frankly, I an a cynic about organized government.  Clearly, it’s not working.  I say ban organized government altogether, because anyone with eyes can see that it does more harm than good.  Don’t you think?  Let’s just go for complete anarchy and chaos because that makes so much more sense than being organized.  Organization = bad.

On a related note, I just want to ask Elton John if he thinks unorganized religion makes more sense.  See, he said this:

“From my point of view, I would ban religion completely. Organized religion doesn’t seem to work. It turns people into really hateful lemmings and it’s not really compassionate.”

From my point of view, I would ban government completely.  Organized government doesn’t seem to work.  It turns people into really hateful lemmings and it’s not really compassionate.

Ha.  Elton John should just shut up and sing.  What does he know about organized religion anyway?  He makes as much sense talking about organized religion as I make talking about organized government.  (As if there is such a thing.)

Now, stop with the red states and blue states already.  Learn some appropriate adjectives and descriptors.  I mean it.

  1. I read the Elton John thingy. I was SO tempted to post about it, and then I thought….compassion. But I probably still will anyway. And don’t you think government would be so much simpler if they just let ordinary women get on with it? I just hate it when someone has a great idea, and it is shouted down simply because the other party didn’t think of it first. I feel a soap box approaching. Or a rant.

I was so annoyed when I read that bit by Elton John. Shut up and sing is right.

And I can’t even comment on whether you are red or blue because I HAVE NO CLUE!!! Truly, I never can remember, so I’m with you there, too.

  3. I cannot remember which color is which. Ever.

Who ever said that just because you are good at ONE thing, and make an obscene amount of money doing it, that any one at all would care about what you have to say about totally unrelated things!?

    But than, who am I?

    Someone who needs organizing.

  4. Red-Republican, both R’s.

And any appropriate adjectives that come to mind when thinking of politics or Elton John…well, my mom taught me not to use those words in public.

  5. I find it interesting how people will follow the beliefs of someone famous/rich/beautiful just because they are famous/rich/beautiful. It’s like those qualities automatically make them smarter. Ummm, no. They just make them famous/rich/beautiful.

Elton John is just a man who cannot tolerate anything that says his sexual preference is just wrong. He has the right of freedom of speech. That doesn’t make him right.

And I have to say that I’m tending to agree with you on the banning of organized government. The past 30 years have shown that it’s not about the people; it’s all about who carries the bigger bat.

  6. People are naturally inclined to split up into clans or tribes. It’s just the way we are. It’s comforting to have your ‘peeps’ back you up and it’s generally difficult to break out of the boundaries set by the tribe.

As for Elton John, I would postulate that just about every person has a problem tolerating anything that claims you are going to hell for doing something you think of as a natural extension of yourself.

Apparently there are people who cannot tolerate anything that says the religion they espouse is just wrong.

I’m an atheist. As far as I’m concerned, if you believe in a God, you’re wrong. You can claim to have tolerance for me because I don’t have any power. Atheists can’t be elected to office. Atheists don’t really have a voice. But what if we did?

What if atheists had the same power over people who believe in a deity as ‘God fearing’ people have over homosexuals? How much tolerance would you have? Probably not much.

  7. You know, I think 2 months ago that Elton John quote would have annoyed me more. Then I met a girl who says she is Athiest, and she shared a theory she had. She thought, religion (not belief in God, or Jesus, or a Supreme Being, etc—but organized religion) seemed to have this tendency for good people to be good and become better, and not-so-good, or evil people to become worse and justify their behaviors in the name of religion. I have to say, I was persuaded. Maybe this is something I haven’t thought through–completely. My religious beliefs are at the very core of who I am, and I can’t imagine my life without a Savior or my reliance upon that. However, I know some really horrible, even evil people who speak that same language and do really horrible things in the name of religion. Sometimes the “organization” of religion, is just as bad as the organization of goverment. I guess my point being, I would hope, that I would still be the same kind of good person, making good moral choices even without the “excuse” of my religion. And perhaps that was what Elton was getting at.
However, I do believe he should shut up and sing. I get so annoyed with political and religious statements made by celebrities. My opinion is so much more accurate and worthwhile anyway…

  8. Does someone have freedom of speech if they are not an American? Just curious. I mean, our First Admendment is for American citizens. I’m not sure it should apply to forigners whose own country is no where near as wonderful as ours. 🙂

Count me in. I’m not sure when being rich and famous meant that you have a right to start acting like a self made god and people should worship all that you say and do. I say they have a right to say it but I have a right to tell them I don’t care. Their morals are usually screwed up anyway.

  9. My daughter just had to do a debate on whether organized religion helped or hurt society. She was on the “Pro” side and came to me for help. After lots of careful thought about what people have done in the name of organized religions (Crusades, the Holocaust, Jihad) she ended up with this thesis: Organized religion hasn’t done a lot for society in general and me specifically, but people who have authentic faith have changed my life dramatically. She did a great job backing that one up.

  10. I know I am most likely a day late…and probably a dollar short, but the whole “organized relegion” idea is SO tough for me right now. I grew up with it…wanted to believe it was the right thing…but I see the aching, hurting, lonely rejected people…and at the same time I see “organized religion” moving forward surrounded by happy, smiling faces as they dedicate their newest multi-million dollar church building…

WWJD and which group would he be hanging out with?
