Untitled Due to Lack of Effort

The little things thrill me.  For instance, at our town-wide garage sale this weekend, I bought a new Olympus camera to replace the one I dropped while on vacation at the lake.  Five bucks.  I purchased a daybed with a beautiful wooden frame for my son, who requested a downsize from his queen-sized bed.  Twenty-five bucks.  When I ran into a friend, she asked me, “So, what are you looking for today?”  I said, “Bunkbeds, but I know I’ll never find them.”

An hour later, my husband called me to tell me that Sandy had called with news of bunkbeds.  He relayed the bunkbed lady’s phone number to me.  I called, went and bought. . . and the lady actually loaded up the beds into her van and delivered it to my house!  One hundred bucks.  (And the set is gorgeous, solid oak.)

Sunday, I assembled the top bed (it’s actually a loft bed and a free-standing bed that fits under the loft at a perpendicular angle, though we have arranged like a traditional bunkbed at the moment.)  I also put together the daybed and everyone’s delighted with their new sleeping quarters.

In other news, my almost-4-year old daughter has given up her naps, but instead, has a daily fit.  After her mid-day fit, she’s fine and dandy the rest of the day.  I, however, am frazzled.

  1. Good for you with the bunks. Mine are bright red metal with a double on the bottom and twin on top. I had looked for the set with a trundle underneath but no luck and now Elcie is big enough for her own tiny room

In spite of all the space in their beds, I find Rochelle and Rebecca curled up in the bottom as often as not.

  2. Well, at least your Moppet made it a little longer than my daughter did as far as naps are concerned. Kaitlin was 2 when naps were no longer in her vocabulary or daily routine. Even so, I still made her lie down for at least an hour…gave her stacks of books and a few toys. Maybe SHE didn’t need a nap but I sure did, ha! Or at least a quiet hour during the day. She was a very easy child otherwise…even tho she refused to take a nap, she was still content to play quietly on her bed for the time allotted. I truly was blessed. Potty training came easily, too. And then along came her brother! Now HE was a whole ‘nother story, haha!

  3. these finds are not little things! They are kisses from God.

He gave my daughter a “brass” bunkbed for her dolls at a ‘stuff-a-garbage-bag-for-25cents’ yardsale. Even in its used condition, better quality than we could have afforded at the store. The realization of what God did for her went off like a light bulb.

    Priceless!

  4. Mel, you always make me laugh. I like your kind of humor…maybe that’s because I think like you do. Naps are far in the past for my kids, but hey, they’re all in school now so what’s the diff? I remember those teeth-grindingly frustrating fits that accompanied the demise of the nap. Well, maybe I’ll go lie down…haha!

  5. Mel, after taking care of children for 25 years…(other people’s children, I might add) I had to get pretty creative at times. If I might make a little suggestions….music honestly does sooth the savage beast. I have calmed a whole pre~school class to the amazement of the head administrator.

I use to get cassetts and allow my son to listen to them on a small recorder that was very simple. You could probably even find one of those at a garage sale. Most educational store have books on tape. So if the music does not calm her, perhpas listening to a story with music and added sound effects will get her attention.

I am sure you know Dobson has a whole series for children. My son absolutely adored them all.

I am sure it is just a phase. As my mom would say; “This too shall pass.”
