Help Me Decide

I’m going to send a couple of 600-700 word articles to my local newspaper as an audition to become a guest columnist for a year. I thought I’d pick through my posts here first to see if anything grabs me.

Do you have a favorite post that you can imagine being published in a newspaper? I know. How self-centered of me to ask you to think about me, me, me, but do I ever ask anything of you? Other than chocolate and kind comments?

And cash?

Well. If you have a favorite post or topic, leave me a comment and let me know. Or email me. Or just send a message through mental telepathy or write it in the sky.

Thanks in advance.

(My personal favorite, I think is all about shopping for a miracle.)

  1. I didn’t have time to go back and find the name, but there have been a couple about your dad that were amazing. The one where you talk about his life, hopes, etc….Sorry I can’t remember the title.

  2. Well, I haven’t been a reader long enough to suggest possible entries, but if you find someone willing to send you cash or chocolate…please let me know so I can track this person down.

  4. I liked the one about the visit to Chuckie Cheese (among many others). The one where you talked about infertility touched me but I think that would be too personal. Good luck to you!

  7. Melodee,

I wish you luck on your efforts to be published in your local paper. It takes a fair amount of courage to put yourself out there like that. You have a very easy writing style people will enjoy reading. As for suggestions, I would steer clear from the tatooed mom or comparisons to your friends home, etc. They could to easily by misunderstood and offensive to a larger audience who doesn’t know you like your faithful blog readers. No sense shooting yourself in the foot before you get started.

    Again, good luck! Hillary

  9. Sorry, I can’t help you decide at the moment because I’m too busy sitting back turn green with envy that you are brave enough to put your stuff out there like that.

  11. I have been reading your stuff non-stop since you emailed me your blogger address. They are even better than the annual Christmas letter. I love the miracle suit one. I too am a victum of the uni-boob. You must send that one to your paper. I hope you get published.

  13. I like the Shopping For A Miracle one, and I like the older one about your Grandmother. That would show two sides of your writing…the very touching and insightful side, and the hillarious (and still insightful) side!
