Books, books, books

Is anybody reading anything good? I’ve started Mark Helprin’s Freddy and Fredericka, but I haven’t gotten beyond the first chapter. I try to keep track of my reading on Librarything.com. (It’s free, though I probably should upgrade one day.)

I just spent thirty minutes updating my Librarything.com account and trying to remember what I’ve read recently. I will regret that in the morning!

  1. I’m currently reading Don’t You Forget About Me: A Novel (Hardcover)
    by Jancee Dunn (Author)

Suggested by US magazine as a fun ‘summer’ read. So far? I’m diggin’ it! Check it out on Amazon… there are so many 80’s references that it brings me back and each page is the reason for another cheezy ‘trip down memory lane’ smile. =)

    Before that, I read;
Eat, Pray, Love: One Woman’s Search for Everything Across Italy, India and Indonesia by Elizabeth Gilbert

    Also excellent.

  2. I don’t like librarything because it only allows 200 (last I checked) books without paying. Instead I use Bibliophil, and GoodReads, and AllConsuming, and Facebook’s Visual Bookshelf, and also have a book blog where I write reviews of everything I read. 900 or so in the past nine years, which is how long I’ve been recording them. Yes, I am a bookaholic. But can’t recommend anything unless you say what kind of books you’re looking for…

  3. My daughter got me sucked up into the Twilight series… I just finished the second book.

It all started because I thought that maybe, just maybe, I should read the book BEFORE she goes to see the movie with her cohorts!

    Hahaha…lol….sigh…

  4. I’m reading a book right now that you may love (steph, if you see this you would love it too). It’s about a young American woman in Africa working with the Peace Corps. The author worked closely with an African midwife, so if you are into babies and other cultures, you may like it.

(I’m a huge LibraryThing fan. I’m monicabrandywine there. I actually won this book, Monique and the Mango Rains by Kris Holloway, at the Early Reviews message board on LT).

  5. Just finished “Moose” by Stephanie Klien. Just started “The Midnight Club” by James Patterson because it was in the swap box at the dentist and I had nothing to read. Most recent reads before that: The Omnivore’s Dilemma, The Twilight Saga (all four books), The Host, Goodnight Nobody and Certain Girls.

  6. I just finished all four of the Twilight books in about a week. It started out as me making sure they were okay for my 14yo to read (they are not), but I got hooked, and inhaled them. I’m thinking I’ll skip the movie…my imagination is so much better than anything they could put on screen. 🙂

I read Atonement a few months ago, but it was pretty depressing. Um, I’m reading “The Messies Manual,” because I’m messy, and I need help. 🙂 I’m also still reading “The G.I. Diet.” and doing pretty well with it!

  7. I just finished the “Twilight” series by Stephenie Meyer. It was entertaining and an easy read (4 books in the series).

I loved Red Tent, and The TIme Traveler’s Wife.

  8. I’m in a reading rut and I’ve not fallen into the “Twilight” series yet. I did long to buy a Kindle bookreader from Amazon. Its quite expensive, but you can purchase books for the digital electronic reader for only $4 each. I think its amazing!
