These books lined up on my bed were removed from my bookshelf. The bookshelf shows the books AFTER the books on the bed were removed. I was looking for my copy of Into the Wild by Jon Krakauer. In order to do so, I had to remove the first layer of books to see what was behind. I found some old books that I put into a pile to read again soon, along with a few new ones I decided to read sooner rather than later.
This book reorganization did not result in finding my copy of Into the Wild. Alas. At some point, I must have passed it along to someone else to read and now I regret my generosity. In fact, I’m ordering myself a new one because I simply must read it again before I see the movie version, coming out soon. (Friday?) I read that book back when I’d never heard of the author, nor the story. I sort of feel like I personally discovered Jon Krakauer.
Oh, and just so you know . . . this is just one of my bookshelves. The matching one holds non-fiction and until I decide I simply must find a book I remember owning at some point in my life, that bookshelf will remain dusty and double-stacked.
(I put all the books back. I am going to read them all, even if I have to live to be 150.)

Glad to see there are others out there with double-stacked bookshelves! Yours is the second blog I’ve read today that mentioned “Into the Wild”. I’ve never read it, but am thinking it might be a good idea to add it to my list.

I, too, read Into The Wild sometime back – I think I had seen it on 20/20 and it peaked my interest. It looks like it will be a good movie, one that will do justice to the book and the story. I plan to go see it soon.

Fabulous book – have you read all the others which detail things from other people’s and other parties points of view? It’s a fascinating study into how things can look so different from different places. I also read it before knowing anything about the events and it was amazing. Must go and find my copy when I get home tomorrow.
I hope the film comes out in the UK sometime soon then, I hadn’t seen anything about it anywhere.
My bookshelf looks like that too…double stacked and stacked on top. I should buy another one (note…not ‘get rid of some books’ but ‘buy more storage’…sigh).

You probably did discover Jon Krakauer, but I can say “I knew him when…” Like me, he grew up in Corvallis, Oregon. His father was my mother’s surgeon in the late ’70s when she was super sick, and we all kept in touch after that. Nice family.

Wow, that’s a lot of books! We triple stack our paper backs (you can fit more that way) and have some of our treasured hard covers displayed single stacked and grouped by subject. (Wish I was that organized elsewhere!).
“Into the Wild” is a book I really liked when I read it a while back, though I borrowed mine from someone else…and actually returned it when I finished! 🙂

The only good thing about losing something, is finding it again. Sorry you didn’t find your book. And the only good thing about looking for something lost – is it often leads to finding other things you forgot you loved.

My bookshelf used to look like that until I made myself stop buying books until I had read what was on my shelf. I don’t know why I torment myself so.

Woops. Another bookaholic. I’m quite reasonable these days. I own only about 900 books, and I purge twice a year. Also I have forced myself to stick to a 50€ a month budget for books, CDs, comics, and DVDs. But money made by selling old books may be re-invested.
I feel better with a littel restriction. I found that I bought so many new books that I never re-read the old ones. And I found that I’m reading so many blogs right now that I still have six unread books on my “recent acquisitions”-shelf. One I bought more than a year ago.

My neighbor is married to one of Christopher McCandless’ brothers. This whole process of watching their brother/son die on screen has been surreal and interesting for their whole family.

I love John Krakauer! And I am really excited to see that movie. Oh and, I have finally chosen the bookshelves I will buy and I am looking forward to turning this one little room in our house to my library. I get giddy thinking of the books all neatly on shelves, only one row per shelf. My comfy leather chair and ottoman off in the corner with a lovely floor lamp nestled next to it. A nice soft blanket and little side table for my wine or coffee….ahhhhhh, heaven!

Well, I have a bookcase like yours, floor to ceiling in my bedroom, one in my den, books on the floor in the den, books on the floor in the bedroom, books in the family room, books in the living room, and dang it, there’s one book I want to find but can’t. I have a book I am dying to read, but won’t start it till I finish one of the books on my bathtub. My problem is I work in a used book store and so I get to bring home anything I want to read. I’ll have to live to be at least 150 to read all I have here at the house–heaven forbid if someone brings something else into the store that’s interesting. It’s a sickness, I tell you, a sickness.
