And so it begins

Our first day of Avalanche Ranch (the annual Vacation Bible School program) is over. We had fewer kids than we usually do for a variety of reasons. I’m just glad that it’s underway . . . I was at church from 12:30 p.m. until 10:30 p.m. yesterday, decorating and tending to the myriad of details that reside in my head.

Here’s the decorated stage:

I am indebted to the women (and a man or two) who helped with decorations. (Especially the church people who carried in ten huge bales of straw!)

I think I may actually survive my sixth VBS in a row. Yay.

  1. That looks incredible.

I was raised Catholic, but we always went to VBS because it was right across the street from our daycare provider. My sis and I loved it, and I still have those songs stuck in my head once in a while.

  3. The last of my gang just aged out (I may have already told you that – blame it on approaching senility).

I’m Methodist, we run with the same themes you do (as you know), but when the girls were younger I sent them all over town, including one that was held in a local park.

  4. I am in awe that you are directing VBS and not for the first time. I did our registrations this year, but was good friends with the two directors. I couldn’t believe how many details they had to keep up with. WOW! Your stage looks amazing too–we did Avalanche Ranch too but had nowhere near that kind of props. Way to go! Have a great week!

  5. Our kids will be at Avalanche Ranch next week. Here’s irony: I actually checked the little box indicating I wanted to help—but nobody ever called me! I guess they must have volunteers coming out of their ears…

    Have fun!

  6. That is adorable! Great job director! Its amazing how many volunteers you need with even a small VBS. I don’t think people have a clue unless they are actually involved during the week and see it for themselves. We’ll be praying for you!

  7. Mel, it looks good. My kids are going to the luthern church that they attend school at next week same theme. They went to our church’s VBS 2 weeks ago. There they learned about the armour of God. Everyone was decked out in army gear. It was fun. Hope this week goes well.

  8. Awesome job, Mel!!! I’d love to get my kids to VBS this year but most of our churches are doing it in the morning and since Hubby and I both work, we can’t swing it. Hope yours turns out super!!!!

  9. Looks like another great VBS Mel! Boy do I have great memories of VBS and church potlucks. The Brethren church I went to as a kid did the best job. Loved that church.

  10. I’ve never been to a VBS, and this summer I’ll be in charge of arts and crafts for our Avalanche Ranch in two weeks. EEk! I’m so terrified that I’ll screw it up, it’s not even funny.
