Head Aches

Those of you who have never had the responsibility of planning a church event don’t know what you’re missing.  I’m at that stage where my head aches and I’m immobilized by the weight of details tangled together like the world’s largest rubber band ball.  Only fifty-three children are signed up, which can mean two things:  1)  Our event will be smaller this year than normal (to which I would say YA-HOO!) or 2) Forty children plan to sign up at the last minute on Monday morning (to which I would say NO!  JUST NO!).

And, just for the fun of it, I’ve agreed to let my boys have two friends “sleep” over tonight . . . and I do use the word “sleep” very loosely since they fully intend to stay up all night long giggling and playing games.

. . . so much time passed since I wrote that last sentence that I realized I have nothing more to say tonight, other than this simple declaration:  I HATE SLEEPOVERS.

Also?  I HATE SLEEPOVERS.  Oh wait.  I already said that.

  1. Next time when the sleepover gets too noisy you should go in there and ask to join them. Throw in a mud mask, fuzzy slippers and a bathrobe for good measure. That’ll quiet ’em down. They’ll wanna be undetected for sure :).

  2. I was just going to recommend a tent, but then I realized that is like 10 times more work and kids running in and out of the house all night long.

  3. We invited the girl across the street for a sleepover, and her mother said it was OK, but for us to know there would be no reciprocal invite. “I don’t do sleepovers” she said. They had tried it when D was much younger and it was a disaster, so she made the We Don’t Do Sleepovers rule. What a brilliant woman!!! Wish I’d thought of that a few years ago. But really, it’s not that big of a deal with 7 and 8yo girls, mostly giggling and lots of popcorn to vacuum later!

  4. I hate them too, and we’re having one right now! A little girl whom I love, but I resent the fact that I had to put on a bra in her honor before 8am. Sigh…

  5. Good luck with VBS! It’s one of the best ministries out there, and the kids will have a blast. Good work, Mel! Rah rah rah!

  6. We didi VBS earlier this month – Avalanche Ranch, in fact. We had around 80 kids come on our fullest night. I was a fun, very full, tiring week. Hope your have a great week, Mel.

Sleep-over is an oxymoron. (and I usually feel like a moron for agreeing to them.)

  7. Ugh to sleepover’s! I was VBS director for 4 years at my former church, but that was before I was married and had what I thought was all the time in the world. We had about 200+ kids each day at our VBS and I nearly had a panic attack the week before each year with trying to get everything done. I so feel your headache pain!

  8. Oh, you’ve got a double whammy goin’ there! Sleepover AND being in charge of a church event! You’re amazing. Me? I’ll take 10 church events before I take a sleepover.
