Last night, I took my a neighbor boy and my three boys to see “Eragon.” I am not the demographic the film-makers aimed at, but still, I must say that while I thought the pacing was good, I felt no emotional response whatsoever to the story.
All the way home, the boys repeated variations of “I make a meatball” using a Mario-from-Nintendo accent. They giggled endlessly and while I couldn’t see them, I knew they were elbowing each other in their glee and hurry to outdo one another.
Last week, I saw “The Good Shepherd,” which Larry King supposedly said was the “best spy film ever.” I really wanted to love it, but found it dull and confusing. In fact, midway through the movie, the snores of a man one row up caused all of us to look over and nod with empathy because we all felt like snoring, too. However, a boring afternoon in the movie theater with my hand in a bag of popcorn is better than the most exciting day at home doing laundry, so I’m not complaining.

Did you see The Queen yet? I liked it a lot. I don’t know if the film is American or British, but it’s done in what to me is the British style. They let a good story unfold at its own pace without reverting to cheap gimmicks.

We took our two girls to see “Night at the Museum” this past weekend. While not a deep thought provoking story about the human condition or anything serious, it was quite a fun film which all four of us enjoyed. One of my girls especially liked the monkey, while the other one thought the little cowboys and Romans were hysterical! 🙂

Whew. I’m glad the movie confused you as well. Sitting there for nearly three hours, I felt like a complete idiot. I told my husband afterward that it seemed like someone took the book version, picked a few paragraphs from a few chapters here and there and created a script from that and expected everyone to follow. I know I haven’t forgotten that much of history. I didn’t even have the benefit of popcorn.
Kids talking with accents = priceless!

The first and last movie I’ve seen in a theater in a long time was “The Queen” and I went by myself!! Great movie. It takes a LOT to get me out to a movie anymore. It takes a lot to get me out anywhere, haha! My Dear Hubby said he’d take me to Noho’s for my birthday dinner and every time he’s suggested it the past couple weeks I keep putting him off. We’re becoming a couple of old farts…there’s no place better than home. And an empty nest is quiet, Mel, but only ’til the grandbabies arrive. And by then you’ll probably be looking FORWARD to the patter of little feet in the house again. Happy New Year!

My guys went to see The Good Shepherd on Dec. 22 (Friday before Christmas) and I opted to stay home ALL BY MYSELF 🙂 With Christmas coming up quickly I used the time to wrap some gifts, clean up the kitchen, and just relax.
I got two free tickets today to see Night at the Museum on the new IMAX just 7 miles down the road, so I guess we will go this weekend. I like going to movies as long as it keeps my attention….sometimes I’m in the mood for something a little deeper, and sometimes I just want to be entertained.

My brother went to see Eragon – said the same as you.
My mother went to Good Shepherd – reported same as you.
I was disappointed to hear that because I wanted to see both. Oh well. Hollywood needs to get on the ball.
Happy New Year. 🙂

I’m so glad someone else found “The Good Shepherd” dull and boring. I think if any one of us (we were four)had suggested leaving in the middle, the others would have jumped up and followed.

Took Katie & Megan to see Eragon in Lakewood before Christmas – they loved it. I couldn’t get into it. They’re into dragons, big time, so I guess they were the target audience. Now Katie is reading the book, so I’m happy. Anything that gets her more interested in reading is okay in my book.
I laughed at the imagery of your boys using a Mario accent. 🙂
